Certification can significantly help your business gain access to government contracts. Whether you are just starting a business or your company is already established, you can benefit tremendously from these “set aside” contracts. There are several government agencies at the local, state, or federal level which offer certification.
Certification can help not only to connect to government agencies, but with private-sector buyers. The National Minority Supplier Development Council has 24 regional councils. The council has corporate members which includes Marriott, Google, and IBM to name a few they also connect with over 12,000 minority-owned suppliers.
Both the federal departments and state agencies establish annual goals to contract with Minority and Women owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) both as prime contractors or subcontracting.
Some states set aside a percentage of government contract for minority firms which mandate the agencies to meet the set aside percentage.
